On International Women’s Day, Black & Associates is celebrating the seven exceptional women on our team. Each of the women at the firm has their own lived experience, unique perspective, and exceptional strengths. This helps us all to be creative, efficient and inspired.
We also celebrate the many women leaders that have entrusted their legal matters to us. Their leadership, mentorship, and friendship are indispensable to us.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity. Embracing equity cannot be done passively. “Embracing” is a ‘doing word’ that requires us to not only act, but to act enthusiastically.
We recognize that though great strides have been made, there is still a long way to go, even in Canada where:
Less than 1/3 of law firm partners are women.
Less than 1/3 of senior managers are women.
Less than 1/3 of Canadian City councillors are women.
Less than 1/3 of our Members of Parliament are women.
Ten times more women than men have fallen out of the labour force since the pandemic.
Our firm aims to put our values into practice through the endeavours we support, the files we undertake, and through equitable internal policies designed to support women. We will continue to ask ourselves how we can all best embrace equity moving forward.
